JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung reviewed the construction project for the Jakarta Sewerage Development Project (JSDP) Zone 1 Pluit located on Jalan Pluit Selatan and Jalan Pluit Selatan Raya, Penjaringan, North Jakarta.
The large-scale wastewater management project is targeted to be completed in 2027 and is expected to be able to serve 220,000 households or about 1 million residents.
Pramono said the construction of JSDP is one of the strategic projects to realize Jakarta as a global and sustainable city.
"Actually, this project is a very, very strategic project. As a global city, an inclusive city, a city for the future, the handling of wastewater must be well regulated. Now what has been completed is only in Zone 0 in Setiabudi and Zone 1 here, and then it will start in Zone 6, "said Pramono, Thursday, October 30.
Big construction works such as JSDP do trigger congestion on a number of roads, especially in dense residential areas such as Pluit and Penjaringan. Heavy equipment activity and the closure of part of the road caused traffic to stall, especially during peak hours.
On the one hand, Pramono admitted that this impact was unavoidable, but the project still had to be carried out for long-term purposes.
"This project related to congestion is something that cannot be remembered. But because the importance of this project must be carried out and must be prepared in Jakarta as a city of the future, it must still be done," said Pramono.
He emphasized that the DKI Provincial Government is committed to improving public communication so that people understand the urgency of the project.
"The most important thing is that we will make public communication now more transparent and open. So that's what we will do, we will improve public communication and then so that the public knows this is done for the benefit of the people of Jakarta," he added.
The JSDP Zone 1 Pluit project was built underground with a depth of up to 30 meters. According to Pramono, this work is very complex and requires close coordination between the DKI Provincial Government and the central government, especially in the management of clean water and wastewater.
"Criticism must exist and become our challenge. But, after I saw for myself, I knew that this project turned out to work under (land). In fact, the first place was a depth of 30 meters. Here it is approximately 20 meters and they are active under (ground). So, this is a project that is really necessary for Jakarta so that the waste problem can be handled properly," he explained.
The Director General of Human Settlements at the Indonesian Ministry of Public Works, Dewi Chomistriana, added that wastewater treatment systems such as JSDP are very important to reduce groundwater pollution and maintain the health of residents.
"This is very important for Jakarta, for Jakarta residents, and the Zone 1 project has only served 7.8 percent of the total population of DKI Jakarta. So, our challenges are still many. Of course, we also ask for support from all Jakartans so that they can jointly realize the JSDP project. Moreover, later we will start immediately for Zone 6, "said Dewi.
The JSDP service area of Zone 1 Pluit covers 4,901 hectares of North Jakarta and West Jakarta. The Wastewater Processing Installation (IPAL) is to the northwest of the Pluit Reservoir, serving Pluit, Penjaringan, Pejagalan, to Pekojan and Angke Villages.
