JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung asked Perumda PAM Jaya not to delay the temporary suspension of piped clean water services in 53 urban villages in Jakarta.
Water services will be turned off starting Friday, October 31, 2025 at 22.00 WIB until Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 02.00 WIB.
Pramono said that although the layoff only lasted four hours, the distribution of water to customers' homes at the farthest point from the water treatment plant (IPA) could take up to two days to return to normal.
"Because this is a force majeure, something that is outside of planning, I ask to be handled properly and should not linger," said Pramono at Penjaringan, North Jakarta, Thursday, October 30.
As long as the water supply disruption still occurs, Pramono emphasized that PAM Jaya has prepared an alternative handling plan, including the provision of water tankers for affected residents in each village office.
"PAM Jaya will now take action and hopefully in the next week this issue will be resolved," he said.
Previously, Perumda PAM Jaya announced that it would temporarily suspend piping water services in North Jakarta, East Jakarta, and West Jakarta as a result of PLN's rejuvenation work at the Pulogadung Water Processing Installation (IPA), East Jakarta, which has a production capacity of 4,500 liters per second.
PAM Jaya President Director Arief Nasrudin explained that this temporary suspension is needed to prevent the risk of short circuits or damage to the power grid which can cause greater disturbances.
"If there is no electricity repair by PLN, the risk is quite large. It can cause short circuits or unexpected disturbances that actually make water services uncertain," said Arief.
He added that although the repairs only lasted four hours, the recovery of water distribution to customers could take up to 48 hours, depending on the distance and pressure of the pipeline network.
"After four hours of treatment completed, the nearest area of the IPA will immediately return to water supply. But for a further area, it can take up to two days," he explained.
