JAKARTA - Deputy Director of National Security for the South Korean Presidential Office (South Korea), Oh Hyun-joo assessed that North Korea (North Korea) often fights the country's expectations in seeing the future.
Oh Hyun-joo's assessment was related to the issue of the meeting of the President of the United States (US) Donald Trump and North Korean President Kim Jong Un on the sidelines of the APEC 2025 Summit which was held in South Korea.
"Against South Korea's expectations," Oh Hyun-joo said in an interview, Monday, October 27, quoted by Tass.
So far, South Korea has not seen any possibility of Trump-Kim Jong Un meeting at the Asia Pacific economic cooperation forum.
"Our government's thorough assessment shows that there are no specific signs indicating this meeting will occur," said Oh Hyun-joo.
The wish of this meeting was based on a brief meeting between Trump and Kim Jong Un on the inter-Korean border in 2019.
"I don't have substantive information [that the meeting will happen]. It's just speculation in the newspaper," he continued,
The day before, South Korea's National Security Adviser, Wi Sung-lac, said the same thing. According to him, South Korea saw no signs of preparation for the meeting.
However, Wi Sung-lac insists his country is ready to face such a scenario.
