JAKARTA - Member of Commission VI of the DPR, Rivqy Abdul Halim asked for an investigation regarding the findings that revealed that the water source packaged by the Aqua brand was thought to have come from a bore well, not from a mountain spring as has been claimed in advertisements. If a violation is found, Rivqy urges related parties to be firmly sanctioned.
"How come it's different from claims in advertisements? In the packaged water ad, it is said that from selected mountain springs and processed without engineering. From this contradiction, it certainly raises many questions in the community," said Rivqy, Friday, October 24.
Rivqy assessed that this practice has the potential to violate Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection, especially regarding the rights of the people as consumers to obtain true and honest information.
"Regulated in the law, consumers have the right to correct, clear, and honest information regarding the conditions and guarantees of goods and/or services. If the company is guilty, of course it must be given strict sanctions," said the legislator from East Java IV.
Rivqy also highlighted the potential for environmental damage from massive groundwater extraction without in-depth studies. According to him, a comprehensive evaluation of these activities is needed.
"Commission VI will be able to encourage the investigation and study team to find out the impact of activities before, when and after drilling the well is carried out. Is it detrimental to the environment and the surrounding community and whether there is potential for harm to consumers of the bottled water," he explained.
Furthermore, Rivqy said that Commission IV of the DPR in charge of trade and consumer protection would summon related parties to discuss this issue. Such as the National Consumer Protection Agency (BPKN), YLKI, LPKSM and PT Tirta Investama as the producer of Aqua.
"As a first step, Commission VI of the DPR RI can summon these parties and ask for information based on data and facts related to the issues that are crowded in the community or consumers of bottled water. And it will be continued by testing the data provided based on existing laws and regulations," said Rivqy.
Rivqy emphasized that the DPR is committed to ensuring that the implementation of the Consumer Protection Law is consistent and fair.
"Anyone who violates must be given sanctions and the community or consumers who are sacrificed must get compensation," concluded Rivqy.

As is known, this information emerged after West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi conducted a surprise inspection of an Aqua factory in Subang. During his visit, it was revealed that the water source used in the production process did not come from mountain springs, but from drill wells or groundwater.
One of the factory employees explained to Governor Dedi that the depth of the drill well reached 100 meters. This finding raises further questions about the potential environmental impact, including land shifts due to large-scale drilling.
