Russian Missile Attack Kills 6 People In Ukraine As Trump Postpones Meeting With Putin

JAKARTA - Russian missile and drone attacks in Ukraine killed six people, including two children, and caused power outages across the region. The attack comes as US President Donald Trump confirmed to postpone a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin because Moscow refused a ceasefire.

Debris from falling weapons strewn across the Ukrainian capital, sparking fires in half of its district, Timur Tkachenko, chief military administration Kyiv, said through messaging app Telegram.

"Ukraine has long approved the proposed US ceasefire, while Moscow is making every effort to continue the killings," said Volodymyr Zelenskyy chief of staff Andriy Yermak, in Telegram's post after Russia's latest attack.

"This means that collective action against Putin is currently insufficient, and we all have to work harder to get him to stop killing our people," he continued.

The statement comes after the White House on Tuesday postponed plans for a summit between Trump and Putin after Moscow rejected calls for an immediate ceasefire.

A senior US official told Reuters there were no plans for a meeting in the near future.

Two people were killed in an attack in Kyiv, while four, including two children, were killed by Russian attacks in the surrounding area, Ukrainian emergency services said.

Ten people were rescued from a fire in a tall building in Dniprovskyi district, Kyiv, said Mayor Vitali Klitschko, with a child of five hospitalized throughout the city.

Officials said the fires also occurred in the districts of Desnianskyi, Darnytskyi, and Pecherskyi, the last location of the Kyiv settlement of Pechersk Lavra, a symbol of Ukraine's spiritual and cultural history.

Ukrainian officials said the attack lasted nearly all night and Wednesday in the early hours of the morning, initially with ballistic missiles and then drone strikes.
