JAKARTA The gas cylinder explosion that occurred at the house of a resident of the Taman Palem Lestari Complex, Block A27 Number 37, RT 13/16, Cengkareng Barat Village, Cengkareng District, West Jakarta, turned out to have a fairly wide impact. From the results of the crime scene (TKP) conducted by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Cengkareng Police, it was recorded that there were six houses around the location that were damaged by the explosion.
Cengkareng Police Chief Kompol Fernando Saharta Saragi said the gas cylinder explosion was strongly suspected to have been caused by a gas leak from a 12 kilogram LPG cylinder regulator installed in the kitchen of ES's house (73).
The unfortunate incident occurred when the victim was about to start a stove for cooking. When the fire was lit, an explosion immediately occurred.
"So the victim wanted to start the stove to cook. At that time there was an explosion," Fernando said when confirmed, Thursday, October 16, 2025.
From the results of the initial crime scene, he continued, it was suspected that the leak occurred in Pertamina's 12 kilogram gas installation.
"Because regulators and pipes are known to be loose and only tied up by victims," he said.

The victim admitted that the gas cylinder had only been installed about a week earlier. Allegedly, the incomplete installation caused the gas to leak and pile up around the kitchen until it was finally triggered by a fire when the victim tried to turn on the stove.
The explosion caused quite severe damage. A total of six houses were affected, including the main victim's house and a car parked around the location.
"Six houses around the location were affected, including the victim's house and his neighbor's house in the back," Fernando said.
From the results of the inspection at the location, the police confirmed that there was no post-explosion fire.
"There were no traces of fire or burnt remains in the kitchen area. So it was purely an explosion caused by the leaking and triggered gas," he explained.
Currently, the police have examined two witnesses, namely the residents who first helped the victim and witnesses who heard the explosion. The Cengkareng Police are also coordinating with the Labfor Police Headquarters to determine the technical cause of the explosion and check CCTV footage around the location.
