European Union Lures Serbia Can Join If It Imposes Sanctions On Russia

JAKARTA - The President of the European Union (EU), Ursula von der Leyen, reminded Serbia that if they wanted to join the EU, they must impose sanctions on Russia. He stressed that it was the main requirement to join the EU.

This was conveyed by Ursula when she met Serbian President Aleksandar Vu Badminton in Belgrade, Serbia, Wednesday, October 15, as quoted by Serbian news channel N1 and reported by European Pravda.

"We will try to implement the so-called reform agenda, and I hope we will have support from the European Union for all of this and that we will be heard in Brussels. This is not always easy, and it is not entirely easy to convey it thoroughly to the people here," Vu Shakili said.

According to Ursula, aligning foreign policies with EU member countries is a consideration for EU candidate members.

Serbia's desire to join the EU in 2025 was conveyed when the EU had not yet been led by Ursula. However, at that time there was no serious response from the EU.

However, Ursula reminded Vu Bahi that it was time for Serbia to take concrete steps towards EU membership.

"The implementation is now key and this is why I want to invite you to come to Brussels in about a month to evaluate together," Ursula said.

"I commend you for reaching 61 percent alignment with our foreign policy, but there is still a lot to improve," Ursula told Vu.
