JAKARTA - Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez stressed peace in Gaza should not be achieved at the expense of justice, stressing that parties involved in atrocities must be held accountable.
"Peace should not mean forgetting; it shouldn't mean impunity," Sanchez said in an interview with radio station Cadena SER.
"Those who become the main actors in the genocide that occurs in Gaza must be held accountable for their actions before the law," he continued.
He recalled his experience while working in the United Nations (UN) during the Kosovo War, which ended with the verdict of war crimes against a number of parties involved.
"We still have a lot of work to do," he said. There are still many unanswered questions.

Sanchez insists Spain and Europe will play an important role in the peace process, not only in the reconstruction of Gaza but also in forming a two-state solution based on international law.
The Spanish PM also did not rule out sending his country's troops as part of the peacekeeping force in Gaza.
The Spanish leader said Madrid would maintain an arms embargo against Israel until the ceasefire was truly realized and the process towards peace went on permanently.
"It is important that violence has ended," he said. Now we have the opportunity to open an honest dialogue between Israel and Palestine and towards recognition of two countries.
The day before, Sanchez left for Egypt to attend the signing of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
