Aceh Beware Of Flash Flood, 17 Villages Submerged Up To 3 Meters

JAKARTA - Floods with a Water Level of 3 meters submerged at least 17 villages in Aceh Singkil Regency, Aceh Province since Monday, May 17.

Based on a report by the Center for Control and Operations (Pusdalops) for the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Aceh Singkil Regency, this condition is still ongoing today, Tuesday, May 18.

According to the results of an assessment conducted by BPBD Aceh Singkil Regency, floods occurred from the overflow of the Lae Ordi, Lae Sulampi and Lae Cinendang rivers which were unable to accommodate water discharge. Previously, it was also reported that rain with high intensity hit the area for quite a long time on Monday, May 17 from 15:10 WIB.

"The details of the affected villages include Bulusema Village in Suro District, Ketapang Indah Village and Kampung Baru Village in North Singkil District, Lae Balni Village and Situban Makmur Village in Danau Paris District," said Raditya Jati as Head of the Center for Disaster Data, Information and Communication. Then Silatong Village, Ujung Limus Village, Tanjung Mas Village, Cibubukan Village, Lae Riman Village and Serasah Village in Simpang Kana District.

"From this data, there are as many as 4,443 people living in 991 houses affected by the flood," he said.

In this case the Aceh Singkil District BPBD has gone to the field and coordinated with related agencies together with the TNI and Polri for handling, data collection and evacuation of affected residents.

BPBD has also deployed a rubber boat unit in North Singkil District to facilitate further evacuation and data collection.

As for the latest conditions reported today at 17.30 WIB, floods still inundated several areas of Aceh Singkil Regency and the weather was observed to be cloudy. Until now, there have been no reports of casualties due to the disaster.

Meanwhile, based on weather forecasts from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), moderate to heavy rain has potential in the Aceh region until tomorrow, Wednesday (19/5) at 07.00 WIB.

In this regard, BMKG has declared a 'alert' status for the Aceh region regarding the potential for hydrometeorological disasters such as floods to flash floods that can be triggered by weather factors.

Apart from Aceh, BMKG also released flood and flash flood alert status for each region including North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau, Riau Islands, West Java, East Java, North Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan and South Borneo.
