BMKG Reveals Reasons For Air Temperatures To Feel Hotter This October

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) explained the causes of the recent hot weather in various parts of Indonesia. This phenomenon occurs because the current position of the sun shifts to the southern part of the country, so that sunlight exposure feels more direct and intense.

BMKG Deputy for Meteorology, Guswanto, explained that the air temperature in urban areas should ideally be in the range of 31 to 34 degrees Celsius. However, the shift in the position of the sun causes the temperature to feel higher than usual.

"Currently why does it look hot? Because on the south side, the sun has now shifted to the south of Indonesia," explained Guswanto in his statement, Monday, October 13.

He added that the shift in the position of the sun also had an impact on the lack of rain cloud growth in the southern region of Indonesia.

"This also causes the growth of rain clouds to be rare in the southern region," he added.

The lack of clouds makes sunlight unobstructed and immediately touches the surface of the earth, so that people feel the air temperature is much hotter than usual.

Regarding the potential for rain, Guswanto explained, Indonesia has actually entered the rainy season since August 2025. However, due to the area, not all regions experience the rainy season simultaneously.

According to BMKG forecasts, in November 2025, most parts of Indonesia are expected to have entered the rainy season. Meanwhile, extreme weather has the potential to occur in several areas in the next week, including North Sumatra and central Java.

"Later in December, January, February it will be simultaneously," he explained.

Previously, BMKG forecasts showed high temperatures in a number of cities on Monday (13/10/2025), ranging from 27 to 35 degrees Celsius. Some areas that recorded the highest temperatures, including Serang, Semarang, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya, with temperatures reaching 32 to 35 degrees Celsius.
