JAKARTA - United States President Donald Trump on Sunday said he was not aware of the acceptance of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair in the " Peace Council" designed to oversee the government in the Gaza Strip, Palestine after the war, amid continuing criticism of Blair for his role in the Iraqi War.
"I've always liked Tony, but I want to make sure that he's an acceptable choice for everyone," President Trump said, without naming a specific leader who might consider his choice against Blair.
It is known that the Gaza peace plan proposal submitted by the White House last month listed Blair as a member of the proposed council.
The Peace Council will soon be formed, President Trump said, but he sounds doubtful whether Blair will be well received by all parties involved.
"I wonder if Tony will be popular with everyone because I don't know for sure," he said.
The idea to put Blair on board sparked distrust among Palestinian politicians and analysts, and among members of the Labor Party itself in the UK, where his reputation has been tarnished due to his decision to support the 2003 Iraqi invasion.
After the US-led invasion, the United States and Britain claim that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction have finally proven wrong.
President Trump made his remarks to reporters aboard Air Force One on a flight to Israel, in which he is scheduled to address Knesset on Monday.
