The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) ensures that Indonesia can still export shrimp to the United States (US) despite tightening import regulations from US authorities.
Head of the Marine and Fisheries Product Quality Control and Supervision Agency, Ishartini, in an official statement in Jakarta, Saturday, explained that the tightening only applies to certain companies and certain areas.
Ishartini said that one of the companies in the Cikande Serang Industrial Estate could not export shrimp because it was on the rejection list, following the findings of the alleged Cesium-137 radioactive contamination in its products.
However, the same company located in Medan, North Sumatra, can still export as usual.

Meanwhile, Ishartini said that shrimp processing companies in Java and Lampung could still export to the US, with additional conditions in the form of certificates free from Cesium-137 radioactive substances.
The certificate was issued by the KKP Quality Agency as a certification agency recognized by US authorities.
"The export of shrimp to the US from UPI (fish processing units) outside Java and Lampung is running as usual," said Ishartini.
Based on KKP data, 41 UPIs were directly affected by this additional requirement, consisting of 35 UPIs in Java and six UPIs in Lampung.
All of these UPIs can still export shrimp to the US on condition that they include a Cesium-137 free certificate issued by the KKP Quality Agency as a certification agency recognized by the FDA.
The KKP has also proposed that the quality certificate format commonly used by business actors can still be used, simply add the results of the Cesium-137 test. The SIAP MUTU KKP digital system will be linked to the FDA online system, namely Import Trande Auxiliary Communications System (ITACS) to accelerate the customs inspection process.
