DPR Honorary Council Holds A Plenary Meeting On The Fate Of Azis Syamsuddin

JAKARTA - The DPR Honorary Council (MKD) held a plenary meeting to discuss the case of the involvement of bribery that allegedly dragged the Deputy Chairman of the DPR (House of Representatives), Azis Syamsuddin.

"Yesterday friends (MKD) were told, (plenary meeting) at 2 pm", said Deputy Chairman of MKD Habiburokhman when contacted, Tuesday, May 18.

In this meeting, MKD has not yet summoned the report maker and Azis as reported. Habiburrokhman was also reluctant to explain the details of the meeting discussion material.

"We can't leak it, please. The agenda is closed. Later I will be subject to a code of ethics if it is divulged", said Habiburrokhman.

Previously, the Chairman of the MKD, Aboe Bakar Al Habsyi, said that there had been five reports about Azis Syamsuddin. MKD took 14 days to clarify each report that was received. If it meets the requirements, the report will be followed up.

"We will check the truth, the institution, who and how the data are all clear we will follow up. What is not, we discard", said Aboe.

Aboe said MKD is also still waiting for steps to be taken from the KPK. "That is also part of one of the MKD's work. Because our point is to clarify giving our punishment and reward to members that we need to pay attention to. At least it should be done if there are problems that are reported regarding ethics", he added.

It is known that Stepanus and his lawyer Maskur Husain are suspected of having received a bribe from M. Syahrial amounting to IDR 1.3 billion from the IDR 1.5 billion deal.

The bribe was given so that Stepanus would help stop the investigation into the alleged sale and purchase of positions in Tanjungbalai that the KPK is currently investigating. Azis Syamsuddin himself was said to be the party who facilitated the meeting between Stepanus and Syahrial at his home in October 2020.

On Monday, May 17, Deputy Speaker of the DPR, Azis Syamsuddin, was questioned by the Supervisory Board of the Corruption Eradication Commission.

This statement from a politician from the Golkar Party was explored regarding the alleged ethical violation by KPK investigator, Stepanus Robin Pattuju, who is now a suspect in the alleged bribery case in the handling of the case of Tanjungbalai Mayor M. Syahrial.
