Update: 49 Dead Victims Found In The Ruins Of Al-Khoziny Sidoarjo Islamic Boarding School

The joint team evacuated the bodies of the victims of the collapse of Ponpes Al Khozony (doc BNPB)

Based on temporary data collection from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) on Sunday 5 October from 00.00 to 23.30 WIB, 24 bodies of students were found, including four pieces of human bodies from the ruins of the Al-Khoziny Islamic Boarding School (Ponpes), Sidoarjo.

Thus, 49 people died and five body parts were found. All of them have been taken to Bhayangkara Hospital, Surabaya, to be identified.

The number of victims who are still being searched is now 14 people. Meanwhile, 104 people were found safe. Of these, six people are still undergoing intensive care, 97 people have recovered, and one person is allowed to go home without undergoing medical treatment.

The cleaning of material debris by the search and rescue (SAR) team using one unit of trigger excavator with a concrete destroyer and two bucket excavators, has reportedly reached 80%. So that the bodies of the victims are increasingly being found.

Although the cleaning process shows significant progress, the joint SAR team faces new obstacles. Some of the ruins of the building are connected to the old building on the south side of the main collapsed location.

The condition of the old, oblique building made the team have to be careful and formulate a special strategy so as not to trigger additional damage.

The expert consultant from the Surabaya Institute of Technology (ITS) was brought in to provide technical recommendations. Based on the results of the study, the team is required to hold on to the old building so that the cutting process can be carried out without causing further damage," said Head of the BNPB Disaster Information and Communication Data Center Abdul Muhari, in his official statement, quoted Monday, October 6.

After the process is complete, the next step is to cut the part of the building that is still connected to the building next to it. It is hoped that all this work can be completed in the shortest possible time.
