Four Children Killed By Waves In Mandailing Natal

MEDAN - Four children were killed by waves at Langunei Beach, Tompek Puddle Village, Batahan District, Mandailing Natal Regency (Madina), North Sumatra. All four victims died from parental neglect.

Public Relations Officer (Paur) of Madina Police, Aipda Yogi Yanto said, the incident occurred at around 14.30 WIB, Saturday, May 15. The victims were brothers, Si Kecil Halawa (7) and Kharis Halawa (9).

The other two victims were Aizan Juanda (7) and Kelsin Bulele. All four are residents of Sinukan Subdistrict, Madina Regency.

Yogi said, all four were dragged by the current while playing on the edge of the beach. At the time of the incident, all four were separated from their parents.

"The four victims who died were caused by being dragged by the waves at high tide and the victim was playing on the beach," Yogi said, Monday, May 17.

Knowing there were drifting victims, Yogi said, police immediately descended on the scene. Together with residents and coastguards, they immediately searched for victims.

Officers managed to find the victim. But unfortunately, all four were found to be lifeless.

"3 victims on behalf of Kelsin, Si Kecil Halawa and Karis Halawa have been brought home by their families to the funeral home and 1 more person Aijan Juanda, has been taken by Ambulance to the Funeral Home in Sinunukan Village," yogi said.

After the incident police secured the scene. Police temporarily closed Langunei Beach.

"There has been a ban on the community of beach visitors by the Muspika Batahan Subdistrict to avoid the scene," said Yogi.
