The 6.5 M Earthquake In Sumenep Caused 3 Injured Residents And Dozens Of Damaged Houses

JAKARTA An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 that rocked the Sumenep Regency, East Java, Tuesday night, September 30, left three residents injured. The victims have received treatment at the Gayam Health Center, Sumenep.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari said that until Wednesday, October 1, a joint team from the East Java Province BPBD together with the Sumenep Regency BPBD were still collecting data and handling emergencies in the field.

"The results of the rapid assessment temporarily noted that 30 units of residents' houses were damaged, plus four worship facilities and one health facility that was affected," Abdul said in his statement, Wednesday morning.

In addition, electricity in Gayam District was out due to earthquake shocks. Until now, officers are doing network recovery.

The earthquake that occurred at 23.49 WIB made residents panic and scatter out of their homes. As of 00.29 WIB, there were four aftershocks with the largest magnitude 4.4.

BPBD together with the joint team continue to monitor, collect data, and appeal to the public to remain calm but increase vigilance.

"Residents are also asked not to easily believe information with unclear sources and ensure that the condition of the house is safe before returning to their activities in it," he said.

BNPB stated that it continues to monitor the situation and coordinate with local governments and related agencies. Official information regarding the development of earthquake management will be delivered regularly.
