SIDOARJO - The National SAR Agency (Basarnas) stated that so far it is estimated that 38 students are still trapped under the rubble in the collapse of the prayer room building at the Al Khoziny Sidoarjo Islamic Boarding School (Ponpes), East Java.

Head of the Surabaya Class A SAR Office, Nanang Sigit, said that based on information from the Islamic boarding school, there were approximately 140 students who were victims, of which 102 had been evacuated.

"This means that currently there are 38 students who are still trapped," Nanang told the media crew at the SAR Post near the scene, Sidoarjo, Antara, Tuesday, September 30.

Nanang explained that of the 102 students who were successfully evacuated, 91 of them evacuated independently shortly after the incident, while the other 11 were successfully evacuated from under the rubble by the joint SAR team since the evacuation process began on Monday (29/9) evening.

Of the 11 students who were successfully evacuated from below the rubble, one of them was confirmed dead after being taken to the Siti Hajar Sidoarjo Islamic Hospital.

He added that the rescue team some time ago communicated with one of the students trapped in the rubble. He is optimistic that the victim can be evacuated safely.

Nanang said that currently his party had expanded the sterile parameters at the scene so that the evacuation process could run smoothly.

"Because officers who are trying to evacuate are very sensitive to votes, while in front of the boarding school many people gather and raise voices that interfere with concentration," he said.

Nanang added, until now the problem with the team in evacuating victims is the level of vulnerability of the ruins which has the potential to collapse again.
