DKI Provincial Government Will Ban Smoking In Karaoke Room For Entertainment Places

JAKARTA - The DKI Provincial Government Draft Regional Regulations (Raperda) for Non-Smoking Areas (KTR) which are being prepared by the DKI Provincial Government together with the DKI Jakarta DPRD. One thing that will be regulated is the prohibition of smoking in the main space of entertainment venues in Jakarta, such as karaoke rooms.

"What is regulated is at the place, for example, if there is a karaoke place, it's not allowed in the karaoke place. But people sell there, yes, it can't be banned," said DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung to reporters, Monday, September 29.

However, Pramono emphasized that it does not mean smoking entertainment venues such as karaoke and clubs are completely prohibited. Entertainment venue managers must provide separate places for smoking. They are also still allowed to sell cigarette products.

"So basically, all facilities that allow or hold events must prepare a place to smoke behind closed doors, so as not to disturb others," said Pramono.

For information, currently Jakarta does not have local regulations governing non-smoking areas. Currently, the rules regarding the prohibition of smoking in public spaces are still regulated in Governor Regulation Number 88 of 2010 concerning Amendments to Governor Regulation Number 75 of 2005 concerning Prohibited Smoking Areas.

Currently, the DPRD and the DKI Provincial Government are finalizing the draft Raperda KTR. In the draft, it will describe places that are prohibited from consuming to selling cigarettes.

One of them, an area without cigarettes will be set in an area with a radius of 200 meters from the education unit in Jakarta.

The Raperda will also regulate sanctions for everyone who deliberately advertises, promotes, produces, and provides cigarette sponsors in the KTR area.
