BNPB Reveals Sukabumi Earthquake Impact: 5 Damaged Houses, Residents Asked To Be Alert

JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) stated that five houses were damaged by an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.8 that rocked Sukabumi Regency, West Java, in the early hours of Sunday.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari said the earthquake occurred at 01.59 WIB with the epicenter on land at a depth of eight kilometers.

"According to information from the BMKG, this earthquake has no potential for a tsunami," said Abdul in Jakarta, Monday, September 22.

Based on temporary data from the rapid reaction team in the field, the earthquake caused moderate damage to one house and four houses were slightly damaged in Cipeuteuy Village, Kabandungan District.

Abdul ensured that there were no reports of casualties or injuries in the incident. Conditions in the field in general have returned to conducive with the assistance of officers on standby to anticipate possible aftershocks.

"The BPBD of Sukabumi Regency together with related elements continue to monitor the situation and prepare emergency handling steps if needed," he said.

BNPB mengingatkan masyarakat untuk tetap waspada terhadap potensi gempa susulan, terutama di wilayah yang memiliki kondisi tanah lunak dan bangunan tidak tahan gempa.

BNPB reminded the public to remain alert to potential aftershocks, especially in areas that have soft soil conditions and buildings that are not earthquake resistant.
