Uncertain Weather, BPBD Asks Residents To Monitor BMKG Applications To Prevent Being Affected

JAKARTA - The Lampung Province Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) asked the public to understand weather information to anticipate the impact of natural disasters that can occur in their regions.

"In the future, we hope that the public can be more concerned in seeing and monitoring weather information periodically, before carrying out various outdoor activities," said Lampung Province Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) analyst Wahyu Hidayat when contacted in Bandarlampung, Monday, confiscated by Antara.

He said, getting used to the community in monitoring weather information on a regular basis can be one of the efforts to understand the potential for natural disasters that can occur.

"Actually, not understanding weather information early is one of our vulnerability points. Because when a disaster occurs, we tend to be surprised and don't understand what to do to deal with the disaster," he said.

He explained that through an understanding of weather information, the public can also independently understand how to handle or take evacuation steps in dealing with weather conditions that have the potential to cause disasters.

"Actually, the disaster information distributed by BMKG through the BMKG information application or other social media is quite complete. This should continue to be considered by the public, this is a form of independent preparedness in dealing with potential natural disasters," he said.

According to him, with a high enough intensity of rainfall, the community must also pay attention to the situation when carrying out outdoor activities or in locations prone to hydrometeorological disasters such as landslides, floods, and tornadoes.

"So, through weather information, we already know how long the rainfall is, and we hope to be more careful when carrying out activities in the midst of high rainfall and it is better to avoid disaster-risk places," he said.
