Tito Karnavian Asks Satpol PP To Be Able To Remove Negative Images

JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian emphasized the importance of the role of the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) and the Community Protection Unit (Satlinmas) as the front line in maintaining public order while at the same time supporting environmental cleanliness.

Tito emphasized that Satpol PP must be able to remove the negative stigma that has been attached so that their image becomes more positive in the eyes of the community. A humanist approach must be a characteristic of Satpol PP so that its existence is increasingly accepted by the public.

This message was conveyed by Tito when opening the Satpol PP Capacity Strengthening Meeting in the Regions in enforcing regional regulations (Perda) and regional head regulations (Perkada), as well as strengthening the role of Satlinmas.

"We build public trust, public trust, build good images in the eyes of the public. Satpol PP, if good in the eyes of the public, will be respected and known, even supported," Tito said in a virtual direction, Thursday, September 18.

Tito assessed that one of the challenges of Satpol PP is the image that is often perceived negatively by the public. For this reason, he emphasized the importance of a more humane approach in duty.

According to him, community support greatly determines the success of Satpol PP in carrying out its duties. Public trust cannot be born only from jargon, but from concrete actions in the field.

The former National Police Chief then gave an example of an incident in Makassar City, where Satpol PP went down directly to help residents in post-demonstration humanitarian actions. "We take a humane approach, do good ways," he explained.

Furthermore, Tito emphasized that the presence of Satpol PP should not cause fear, but a sense of security and protection. Therefore, daily behavior, speech methods, and physical appearance of Satpol PP members are also important factors in building a positive image.

"Remember the attitude that you have to be correct, neat, like ladies and gentlemen (the way to dress), the subordinates are a little bit like that. Good dress, authoritative dress, "said Tito.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Regional Administration of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Safrizal ZA, emphasized that the activity was aimed at consolidating the role of Satpol PP and Satlinmas in maintaining order and peace in the regions.

"The purpose of today's activity is to consolidate the role of the Civil Service Police Unit and the role of Satlinmas in the implementation of peace and public order in the regions, especially in responding to the dynamics of recent developments in the situation," he explained.

Safrizal also emphasized that the Minister of Home Affairs' directives on humane attitudes must be translated into daily actions. Humanism, he said, did not reduce the authority of Satpol PP, but actually increased the positive value in the eyes of the public.

"Reluctant, authority, today is not with a big rank, with rank everywhere, not. Not only that, [but also] holding out hands, martial arts, to the knees, standing with knees in front of the community will also get high grades. Therefore, friends, we will continue to hold this humanist attitude," he added.
