Today Is Raining All Day In Jakarta, Residents Are Asked To Be Prepared For Inundation

JAKARTA The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts light rain will hit all areas of Jakarta on Wednesday, September 17. Rain is expected to fall since the morning and continues with thick cloudy weather conditions in the afternoon.

In the afternoon, most areas of the capital will remain shrouded in thick clouds. However, South Jakarta and East Jakarta are expected to still experience light rain. By night, the weather in Jakarta again has the potential for light rain before continuing to become thick clouds.

BMKG estimates that the air temperature in DKI Jakarta is in the range of 24 to 30 degrees Celsius with quite high humidity. Meanwhile, wind speed is estimated to be at 1 15 kilometers per hour, so that potential weather changes can occur at any time.

With the predicted rainfall condition evenly distributed, the public is asked to be aware of the potential for inundation and flooding at a number of vulnerable points, especially in South Jakarta, East Jakarta, and parts of West Jakarta. BMKG reminded that the intensity of light rain that occurs repeatedly throughout the day can still trigger an increase in water discharge in the canals and rivers, especially if there is similar rain in upstream areas such as Bogor and Depok.

For this reason, residents are asked to take anticipatory steps early on. Several things can be done, including cleaning waterways in the home environment so as not to be clogged with garbage, preparing water pumps or sandbags to prevent overflow, and storing valuables in higher places. The public is also advised to monitor the latest information from the BMKG and the DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).

"Although it is predicted that the rain will only have light intensity, residents still need to be vigilant because weather conditions can change. Inundation can occur if the rainfall lasts continuously and coincides with high tides," said BMKG's written warning.

In addition, residents who are active outdoors are advised to bring an umbrella or raincoat, considering the potential for rain to occur almost throughout the day. Motorized vehicle drivers also need to be careful because slippery roads can increase the risk of traffic accidents.

The BMKG emphasized that it will continue to monitor weather developments and update information in the event of significant changes. The public is advised to remain vigilant and maintain environmental vigilance in order to minimize the bad effects caused by the rain that hit Jakarta.
