JAKARTA - The United States (US) has issued new sanctions related to Iran targeting individuals and entities that Washington says are funding Tehran's military, including some in Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates.

Those targeted by the US helped coordinate the transfer of funds, including from Iranian oil sales, which benefited Iranian military forces, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)- Quds Troops and the Ministry of Defense and Logistics of the Armed Forces (MODAFL).

"Iran's 'shadow banking' network is like this run by a trusted dark financial facilitator "failed the international financial system, and avoided sanctions by washing money through shadow companies abroad and cryptocurrencies," the US Treasury statement said.

US sanctions generally prohibit American individuals and companies from engaging in any business transactions with the targeted parties.
