Five Districts Affected By Floods To Landslides In Eid Al-Fitr

JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) noted that there are five districts affected by hydrometeorological disasters on Eid al-Fitr 1442 H, Thursday, May 13.

Five of those areas were affected by flooding to landslides. Among them are Tanah Bumbu and Hulu Sungai Tengah Districts in South Kalimantan, Kapuas Hulu Regency in West Kalimantan, Simalungun Regency in North Sumatra and Wajo Regency in South Sulawesi.

"The average disaster occurred after previous rains with moderate to heavy intensity hit each area and triggered the overflow of several watersheds", said Head of Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center of BNPB, Raditya Jati, in a statement, Friday, May 14.

First, Tanah Bumbu Regency, there were at least 543 people or 135 families affected. A total of 98 people or 27 families evacuated to a safer place.

The reported material losses include 555 units of affected houses, 55 hectares of agricultural land ready to harvest affected, and water levels ranging from 100-150 centimeters.

Second, Hulu Sungai Tengah Regency, South Kalimantan. There are at least 6 villages in Haruyan sub-district affected by flooding from the overflow of Haruyan watershed.

The six villages include Haruyan Seberang Village, Haruyan Village, Lok Buntar Village, Pengambau Hilir Dalam Village, Pengambau Hilir Luar Village and Mangunang Village.

"In this event, there were at least 629 families affected by flooding with a water level of 25-30 centimeters", Raditya said.

Third, Kapuas Hulu Regency, West Kalimantan, there are four villages in Badau Subdistrict affected by flooding with TMA 50-100 centimeters due to Badau watershed overflow. The four villages include Badau Village, Janting Village, Majang Island Village, and Seriang Village.

"BPBD Kapuas Hulu regency until now continues to conduct a quick review and coordinate with the relevant instances to accelerate the handling of flood disasters. In this case, the flooding is reported to recede in the upstream area of the river and the weather is observed to be cloudy", explained Raditya.

Fourth, floods and landslides were reported in two villages located in the administrative area of Girsang Sinpangan Bolon Subdistrict, Simalungun Regency, North Sumatra.

"Material losses and fatalities are still in the process of data collection", he said.

Fifth, the overflow of water discharge in Awo Dam and Bulete River caused three villages in Pitumpanua Subdistrict, Wajo Regency, South Sulawesi to be flooded with TMA up to 170 centimeters.

The three villages are Tabarakka Village, Benteng Village, and Bulete Village. BPBD Wajo district reported that the flood has affected 1,700 people or 890 families.

Material losses collected include 686 units of affected houses, 3 units of affected school buildings, 2 submerged mosques, 6 kilometers of submerged roads, 310 hectares of submerged rice fields, and 20 hectares of gardens also flooded.

"Of all the reports collected, there were no fatalities or injuries from the disaster", he concluded.
