Death Toll From Firecracker Explosion In Kebumen Rises To Four People

KEBUMEN - The death toll from an explosion in the making of firecrackers in Ngabean Village, Mirit, Kebumen Regency, Central Java, increased by 1 person to a total of 4 people.

The doctor guarding IGD of Prembun Regional Hospital Kebumen, Eri Dia, Regency in Kebumen, Thursday, said the death toll from firecracker explosion in Ngabean Village increased by one person, Sugiyanto.

He said Sugiyanto died at 07.40 WIB in Prembun Hospital with severe injuries to his hands and feet and burns all over his body.

The firecracker explosion in Ngabean Village that occurred on Wednesday, May 12 at around 5:30 p.m., had previously claimed three deaths, namely Muhammad Taufik Hidayat (27), Rizky (19), and Rio Dwi Pangestu (22).

With Sugianto dead, the injured victims are still being treated at Prembun Hospital on behalf of Bambang Priyono (29), while the other injured Irwan and Ratna have been allowed to homecoming on Thursday morning.

Bambang Priyono who is still being treated in the IGD room of Prembun Hospital suffered burns to his face and entire body.

Bambang revealed during the incident he and six friends were filling firecracker powder onto a roll of paper.

"It is not known exactly what it came from, suddenly a pile of firecrackers filled with firecracker powder exploded violently. I was a little far from the pile of firecrackers that exploded", he said.

The Labfor Polda Jateng team led by AKBP Rostiawan Apriyanto Kamisi visited the blast site to conduct a crime scene. Forensic Laboratory's team secured a mortar, a cigarette pack, and a match.
