Former Acting Mayor Of Pekanbaru Sentenced To 5.5 Years In Prison, Pays Replacement Money Of IDR 3.8 Billion

PekanbarU - The Panel of Judges at the Pekanbaru District Court, Riau sentenced the former Acting Mayor of Pekanbaru, Risnandar Mahiwa 5 years 6 months in prison and a fine of Rp. 300 million, subsidiary to four months in prison for a corruption case of Rp. 8.9 billion.

"Imposing additional penalties against the defendant in the form of replacement money amounting to Rp3.8 billion taking into account the confiscation of Rp3.6 billion from the defendant and his wife," said Chief Justice Delta Tamtama as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, September 10.

The judge said that if the remaining replacement money was not paid within one month after the decision had permanent legal force, then Risnandar's property would be confiscated by the prosecutor for auction.

"If the auction results are not sufficient, the defendant will be sentenced to an additional one year in prison," he said.

The verdict is lighter than the demands of the Public Prosecutor (JPU) who demanded six years in prison, a fine of Rp. 300 million, a subsidiary of four months in prison, and compensation of Rp. 3.8 billion.

After hearing this decision, Risnandar Mahawa through his attorney stated that he should think about it. The prosecutor also stated the same thing.

Risnandar Mahiva was charged with cutting and receiving money illegally from the Pekanbaru City Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD) in 2024 with a total amount of money reaching Rp8.9 billion.

The Public Prosecutor accused Risnandar of not being alone in committing this riot. He and Indra Pomi Nasution, who is the Regional Secretary of Pekanbaru City, allegedly received money from the deduction from the disbursement of Supply Money (GU) and Additional Inventory Money (TU).

Also dragged was the name Novin Karmila who served as Head of the General Section of the Regional Secretariat. Both of them also became prisoners at the court in this case.
