Viral On Social Media, Pramono Bantah Jakarta Parking Rates Increase To IDR 30 Thousand

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung denied reports that the DKI Provincial Government would increase parking rates in Jakarta to reach IDR 30 thousand per hour. This news is circulating on social media.

Pramono emphasized that he had not yet carried out any plans to increase parking rates in Jakarta to more.

"Until today there is no plan to increase parking rates. So what was conveyed, I don't know who said it, that's not true," said Pramono at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday, September 10.

Pramono admitted that the DKI Provincial Government is currently still focusing on developing a digital parking payment system. This parking digitization has begun to be implemented in the JakParkir application. However, Pramono reiterated that there is no plan to increase parking rates.

"That we are reviewing cashless for parking, yes. To arrange parking, yes. But there has never been any decision, and if there is a decision, we must obtain the governor's approval," he explained.

Previously, information regarding the discourse on increasing parking rates was revealed by the Pandemictalks Instagram account. The account stated that the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency echoed plans for an increase in parking rates.

"The DKI Provincial Government will increase parking rates in Jakarta to reach Rp. 30,000 per hour to suppress congestion," wrote the pandemictalks account.

Still on the same account, it is said that the increase in Jakarta parking rates was also proposed by the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP).
