JAKARTA - United States President Donald Trump said on Tuesday Israel's decision to attack Qatar was made by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, not by the Republican leader.
Israel attempted to killHamaspolitical leaders with airstrikes in Qatar on Tuesday, which stepped up its military action in the Middle East.
The attack came under widespread criticism in the Middle East and its surroundings as an act that could further escalate tensions in already tense areas.

President Trump said he had ordered US envoy Steve Witkoff to warn Qatar the attack would occur, but it was too late to stop the attack.
However, Qatar denied the claims, saying reports that they received prior warnings were false and phone calls from a US official came when an explosion was heard in the Qatar capital, Doha.
Washington considers Qatar a strong ally of the Gulf.
Qatar has become a mediator in an effort to regulate a ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Palestinian militant group in Gaza, the release of Israeli hostages detained by Hamas, and a post-conflict peace plan in Gaza.
After the attack, President Trump spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.
He assured Qatari leaders "such things will not happen again in their territory" while adding he felt "very unhappy" with the location of the attack.
