Middle-aged Man Caught Stealing A Wallet Containing IDR 1 Million In Cash, Claiming To Be For Medical Costs

JAKARTA - A man with the initials JN (50) was the target of the residents' tantrums because he was caught stealing a wallet containing Rp1 million in cash at a credit counter located on Jalan Budi Mulya, RT 11/15, West Pademangan Village, Pademangan District, North Jakarta, Friday, September 5, 2025.

Although the JN perpetrators had been on the run for several weeks, JN was finally found by one of the residents in front of WTC Mangga Dua, Jalan Gunung Sahari.

JN was then taken to the scene for questioning by the local RT management.

Zaenal, the head of the local RT, said that the arrest of the perpetrator JN began with one of his residents who met the perpetrator in front of the WTC Mangga Dua.

Without suspicion, the perpetrator JN was then reprimanded by one of the residents who met him. JN was then lured to a place and obeyed.

However, the residents actually took the perpetrator to the vicinity of the incident where the wallet was stolen for questioning.

"Honestly, he admitted his actions. The reason he did that was for the needs of his sick sister. The wallet was taken, there was Rp1 million in cash and documents," Zaenal told VOI at the scene, Friday, September 5, 2025, afternoon.

Zaenal said the perpetrator stole the victim's wallet on the dashboard of the motorbike at the credit counter. The theft of the perpetrator was caught on CCTV surveillance cameras.

"The perpetrator was recognized, it turned out to be a former local resident. In the past, the ID cards were our citizens, now they are residents of Karawang," he said.

The perpetrator had become the target of an angry mob for his actions. However, the judiciary action did not last long, the perpetrator was arrested by the local regional administrator.

"There was friction, but it was successful that we avoided the friction. We broke up when the residents ganged up, there was friction but we avoided it," he said.

Zaenal asked his citizens not to judge themselves, they must comply with applicable legal procedures.

"Don't do it again like that. Don't be vigilant yourself, prevent yourself from taking justices because the consequences can be fatal to all," he said.

Meanwhile, the victim was reluctant to make a police report and chose to let go of the money stolen by the perpetrator.

"The perpetrator and the victim have not met, but the victim has let it go," he said.
