The Attorney General's Office Is Asked To Be Careful In Formulating The Indictment Of Nadiem Makarim

JAKARTA - Former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Mahfud MD asked the Attorney General's Office to be more careful in drafting charges against the former Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Mendikbudristek), Nadiem Makarim.

As is known, the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) of the Attorney General's Office has named the former Minister of Education and Technology, Nadiem Anwar Makarim, as a suspect in the alleged corruption case of the 2019-2022 Education Digitization program in the Chromebook laptop procurement project on Thursday, September 4, 2025.

In his official announcement, the Director of Investigation (Dirdik) of Jampidsus, Nurcahyo, said that Nadiem's position in February 2020 was as Minister of Education and Culture.

This was in the spotlight of Mahfud MD through a tweet of his social media account.

This is because there was a mistake when investigators said that Nadiem had served as Minister of Education and Culture in February 2020, even though the founder of Gojek was still serving as Minister of Education and Culture.

"The Attorney General's Office should be careful in formulating the indictment, especially regarding the details of the position Nadiem has held. When announcing NAM as a corruption suspect. Dirdik Nurcahyo from the AGO said that NAM's position in February 2020 was the Minister of Education and Culture," Mahfud said, as quoted on Friday, September 5, 2025.

"Even though at that time NAM was the Minister of Education and Culture, not yet the Minister of Education and Culture. Be careful in the indictment later, the litis subjectum or parties involved in a dispute or legal case can be executed, you know," he continued.

Apart from Nadiem Makarim, the AGO has named four other suspects, namely, Sri Wahyuningsih as Director of Elementary School of the Directorate General of Early Childhood Education, Basic Education and Secondary Education in 2020-2021, Mulyatsyah as Director of SMP Kemendikbudristek 2020.

Furthermore, the Special Staff of the Minister of Education and Technology Jurist Tan, and Ibrahim Arief as the Individual Consultant for the Draft Improvement of School Resources Management Technology Infrastructure at the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Seperti halnya, Sri Wahyuningsih dan Mulyatsyah, Nadiem Makarim langsung ditahan di Rumah Tahanan (Rutan) Salemba cabang Kejagung untuk 20 hari ke depan.

Sementara Ibrahim menjadi tahanan kota karena mengidap penyakit jantung, dan Jurist Tan hingga saat ini masih menjadi buron.

Para tersangka diduga melakukan persekongkolan jahat berujung korupsi terhadap program digitalisasi terkait bantuan laptop Chromebook dengan anggaran keseluruhan Rp9,3 triliun yang berujung kerugian negara Rp1,9 triliun.

As is the case, Sri Wahyuningsih and Mulyatsyah, Nadiem Makarim were immediately detained at the Salemba Detention Center at the AGO for the next 20 days.

Meanwhile, Ibrahim became a city prisoner for heart disease, and Jurist Tan is still at large.

The suspects are suspected of committing an evil conspiracy that led to corruption against the digitalization program related to Chromebook laptop assistance with a total budget of Rp9.3 trillion which resulted in state losses of Rp1.9 trillion.
