JAKARTA - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka inspected a number of Mobile Security System (Siskamling) posts in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 3, to ensure conditions remain conducive after the major demonstrations that took place in the past week.

The visit began at 22.00 WIB at the Siskamling RW 07 Post, Kwitang Village, Senen, Central Jakarta, then continued to the RW 09 Post, Kota Bambu Village, Palmerah, West Jakarta.

According to the Vice Presidential Secretariat, the activity is in line with President Prabowo Subianto's directive which emphasizes the importance of national solidarity and strengthening post-demonstration social security.

"The vice president not only reviewed, but also had direct dialogue with residents who were on guard at night," read a press statement from the Setwapres.

In a dialogue with residents, Gibran listened to their experience regarding the situation before and after the demonstration. He also reviewed CCTV footage installed in a number of residential alleys.

Gibran hopes that the culture of protecting the community will continue to be maintained. The spirit of mutual cooperation and togetherness in maintaining security must continue to live in the community," he said.

The riots that broke out since August 25 caused severe damage to public facilities in Jakarta. Temporary data recorded dozens of TransJakarta bus stops on fire, including in the Harmoni, Senen, and Kuningan areas.

Several toll gates were also damaged by the masses, while MRT facilities at the HI Roundabout and Blok M were disrupted due to vandalism.

In addition, a number of office buildings and public facilities such as pedestrian bridges (JPO) on Jalan Sudirman were also damaged. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government estimates that the total loss due to infrastructure damage and public transportation facilities will reach hundreds of billions of rupiah.

Seeing these conditions, Gibran emphasized the importance of the role of citizens in maintaining environmental security as the front line before the authorities intervened. He also promised to report direct findings from the field to the President.
