The Detention Of The Director Of Lokataru, DPR Urges The Police To Focus On Investigating The Prison!

JAKARTA - Member of Commission III of the House of Representatives Benny Kabur Harman questioned the reason why the Indonesian Police (Polri) detained and appointed the Executive Director of the Lokataru Foundation, Delpedro Marhaen as a suspect in the alleged provocation of acts of destruction in a wave of demonstrations in the DPR last week.

According to Benny, it is better for the National Police to investigate and arrest the perpetrators of looting during the demonstration because it is a criminal act.

"What is more important to investigate by the National Police is that the crime of looting is not even investigating and detaining Delpedro," said Benny, Wednesday, September 3.

Benny also asked the police to clearly reveal the basis for Delpedro's arrest who was accused of provocation. Because according to him, the invitation to hold a demonstration could not be the basis for his arrest.

"If you invite people, what is the matter? If I invite you, 'oh, come, we will demonstrate in front of the police station, or in front of the prosecutor's building, to express the opinion of arresting corruptors', what's wrong?", said Benny.

"That's why what provocation was first?" he added.

The legislator from the NTT I electoral district emphasized that the state guarantees everyone's freedom to express opinions. Especially in today's modern era, according to Benny, the delivery of aspirations can be done through social media or the internet.

"Well what's wrong, if you invite that, 'just bring all the clubs, bring Molotov,', now you're wrong," he said.

Therefore, Benny considers that the state has failed to protect human rights guaranteed in the 1945 Constitution, especially Human Rights which are firmly guaranteed in Article 28G (1) of the 1945 Constitution, which reads "Everyone has the right to protect himself, his family, honor, dignity, and property under his control, and has the right to security and protection from the threat of fear to do or not do something that is human right".

"For whatever reason, looting cannot be justified. Then where did the state or the Police go? Investigate the perpetrators!", concluded Benny.

As reported, Delpedro was arrested and named a suspect by the Polda Metro Jaya on suspicion of provocation to carry out acts of vandalism. Delpedro is suspected of having committed a provocation at the demonstration on August 25, 2025 in Jakarta.

The police then charged Delpedro with Article 160 of the Criminal Code and or Article 45 a paragraph 3 in conjunction with Article 28 paragraph 3 of the ITE Law and or Article 76H in conjunction with Article 15 in conjunction with Article 87 of Law 35/2024.
