The National Police Chief's Message: Secure Protests, Enforce The Law If There Is A Violation

JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo met with joint TNI-Polri personnel who were deployed to guard the DPR/MPR RI Building area regarding demonstrations. During the meeting, there were several things that were conveyed, one of which was about the struggle.

"I know how my colleagues struggle to face various problems, in particular this will carry out their duty to protect one of the vital national objects," said Sigit, quoted on Tuesday, September 2.

The personnel are known to be carrying out security at the DPR/MPR RI Building and all vital objects of state symbols. All tasks carried out by the personnel are also emphasized to always adhere to standard operating procedures (SOP).

"In Law Number 9 of 1998, it is clearly regulated that related to activities that are expressing freedom of opinion in public, of course we are all obliged to secure throughout the process and also follow the laws where we must respect the applicable rules and laws, must maintain public freedom, must maintain the existing values of the rules and of course must also maintain the spirit to maintain the unity and integrity of society," explained the National Police Chief.

Regarding the submission of opinions in accordance with the rules that have been set, said General Sigit, the personnel must secure it. However, in the law it is also regulated when these provisions are violated, the police have the authority to remind them.

"And if it violates, of course we can disband. So far, what we have been protecting is how to keep the aspirations of the community that we can really control and everything can run safely and in an orderly manner," said the National Police Chief.

Furthermore, General Sigit emphasized that all personnel must ensure that the delivery of public opinion and aspirations goes well, orderly, and reaches the DPR RI. However. If there are indications of infiltration, it should not be allowed.

All anarchic actions that then have an impact on the company, on the outcome of the source, disturbing, and even causing casualties, said General Sigit, will disrupt the economic situation. Therefore, decisive steps as regulated by existing laws and regulations must be enforced.

"Therefore, related to things that violate the law, let alone destroy, burn, make urban, and destroy public facilities, public facilities, and in particular also related to destruction in facilities in places of international objects, of course colleagues must take firm steps," explained General Sigit.

Before taking action, said the National Police Chief, the personnel were asked to be able to distinguish which ones were orderly, which ones were anarchic, which ones made it difficult for the community

On the other hand, the personnel must continue to maintain solidity, unity and integrity by restoring the existing situation.

There are at least 320 security personnel consisting of the TNI and Polri. The hundreds of members consist of 100 TNI, 200 Polri and 20 Elements of Leadership.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, was also present in the event.
