JAKARTA - Affan Kurniawan's father, Zulkifli, is demanding justice for his son, who died after being run over by a Brimob tactical vehicle (Rantis) during a demonstration on Thursday, August 28. He appealed to the public, especially students and online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojol), to exercise restraint to prevent a similar incident from happening again.

"I ask the media, please don't use this as a way to find fault. I ask my online partners to ensure that my son is the only victim," said Zulkifli at his residence in Jakarta on Saturday, August 30.

Zulkifli said the family has handed over Affan's death case to law enforcement. The Head of the National Police's Propam Division has named seven Brimob officers as the perpetrators of Affan's assault and found them guilty of violating the police professional code of ethics.

"I have handed it over to law enforcement. I have resigned myself to the matter of my son's death. I beg my colleagues to prevent what happened to my son," Zulkifli said.

"That's all I can say, and I also ask fellow students across the country, from Sabang to Merauke, to please trust the police. They have already arrested the perpetrators of my son's crime," he added.

Zulkifli has also asked National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo and President Prabowo Subianto to provide justice for his son. He specifically requested that the perpetrators who ran over Affan be punished to the fullest extent possible.

"First, I would like to thank President Prabowo for intervening to clear the way for the police. Officers who acted in anarchy must be punished the same as my son who died," Zulkifli said.

Zulkifli explained that the National Police Chief had offered him the opportunity to pursue legal action if necessary. He also promised to thoroughly investigate and take firm action against the Brimob officers who carried out the attack.

"As for the message, yes, it's there, if you ask me. But he (the Chief of Police) said, 'Sir, think about it first, take legal action, and we'll resolve everything.' That's all he said. He (the Chief of Police) promised to say that," he said.

Zulkifli said the family would not file a lawsuit, but only asked the Chief of Police to impose severe punishment on the seven perpetrators.

"That's right (they won't file a lawsuit). Because afterward, we're just asking for justice, for those who committed the crime. Not all police officers should be victims. Likewise, my colleagues, please calm your emotions. So that you don't end up like my son," he concluded.

As is known, on Friday, August 29, President Prabowo paid his respects at Affan's residence along with Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Indonesian National Armed Forces Commander General Agus Subiyanto.

Meanwhile, after the incident, on Thursday, August 28 evening, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo immediately visited RSCM to meet the victim's family who were waiting for Affan's body to be taken to the funeral home.
