JAKARTA - Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto is a potential candidate for president in the 2024 presidential election. Prabowo tops the survey with 16.4 percent electability.

Political observer of Al Azhar University Indonesia Andriadi Achmad assessed that the momentum of the 2019 presidential election was actually the last for Prabowo to run for office.

Because, in 2024, he will be 73 years old. However, it is undeniable that Prabowo's popularity increased after serving as Minister of Defense.

"Moreover, the presidents of other countries are also elders, he will already be at 73 in 2024. If I think 2019 is the last because of age, but after seeing lately many old figures also in some countries such as Mahathir PM Malaysia, and Joe Biden as president of the United States. That means more spirit for Prabowo to perform", Andriadi told VOI, Tuesday, May 11.

According to him, it would not hurt if Prabowo came back as a presidential candidate for the fourth time. However, the chairman of the Gerindra Party should not be mistaken to choose a representative to accompany him ahead of the 2024 presidential election.

"If one chooses a representative, it can lose again", said Andriadi.

The Executive Director of Nusantara Institute PolCom SRC assessed Prabowo is suitable to be paired with the governors whose names now appear as potential candidates for the presidential candidate. Such as, Anies Baswedan, Ganjar Pranowo, or Ridwan Kamil.

"If I am Prabowo fit with the governor. Otherwise Anies yes Ridwan Kamil, Ganjar", he said.

Prabowo, continued Andriadi, must be really selective in choosing his deputy in the 2024 presidential election if he wants to win. "So Prabowo is careful if still participating in the 2024 presidential election, especially choosing representatives," he said.

Prabowo's great chance to win if he can seduce Anies Baswedan becomes his companion. However, it would have been defeated if Prabowo had paired up with Puan Maharani.

"If Prabowo-Anies, the ideal pair, and projection will win decisively when facing any candidate. However, the Pro-Anies combination is difficult to come by. Anies is very calculated in accepting if offered by Prabowo as Vice Presidential Candidate because 2024 is the right momentum of Anies for President of the Republic of Indonesia", said Andriadi.
