JAKARTA - Commission VIII of the DPR RI approved the Revision of Law Number 8 of 2019 concerning the Implementation of Hajj and Umrah (RUU Hajj and Umrah) to be brought into a plenary meeting and ratified into law (UU).

One of the points approved is the change of the Hajj Organizing Body (BPH) to the Ministry of Hajj.

Member of Commission VIII DPR, KH Maman Imanulhaq said that this revision was a strategic step in strengthening the governance of Hajj and Umrah and improving services to the congregation. As well as ensuring that there are special institutions at the ministry level that focus on Hajj and Umrah services.

"This revision was born from a thorough evaluation of the challenges of organizing Hajj and Umrah so far. With the establishment of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, the elimination of the Regional Hajj Officer Team (TPHD) for efficiency and transparency, as well as stricter arrangements for quotas and guidance for pilgrims, we are optimistic that the quality of service will increase," said Maman at the Senayan Parliament Complex, Monday, August 25.

The PKB legislator said that his party emphasized the importance of the protection aspect of pilgrims, including in the arrangement of independent Umrah, limiting the cost of guidance, and allocation of special hajj quotas proportional to the law that will be passed.

Maman also said that his party appreciated input from various parties, including community organizations, association of Hajj and Umrah organizers, as well as recommendations from the DPD RI, which have enriched the substance of the revision of this Law.

"For PKB, Hajj services are not only an administrative matter, but also part of the service of the people and the mandate of the constitution," he said.

"We want to ensure that every congregation, both regular and special Hajj, gets safe, comfortable, and dignified services," added Kiai Maman.

Maman encouraged the Hajj and Umrah Bill to be immediately enacted as a law and consistently implemented.

"So that the existence of this new regulation is really an instrument for improving and reforming the implementation of the Hajj and Umrah in Indonesia," he concluded.
