JAKARTA - A transgender woman has been found guilty of sexually assaulting her male partner. The perpetrator, who is originally a man, deliberately concealed his gender identity during sex.

Ciara Watkin, 21, engaged in sexual activity with a man also 21 years old. The two met via Snapchat in June 2022.

The Crown Prosecution Service said that upon meeting, Watkin told the man she was menstruating.

The victim was prohibited from touching him below the waist.

A few days later, the couple met again. However, Watkin later blocked all contact with the man.

One day, Watkin contacted the man again, telling him that she was transgender and had male genitalia.

"From the evidence in this case, it is clear that, prior to engaging in sexual activity with the victim, Watkin made no attempt to inform the man of her transgender status," said Attorney General Sarah Nelson, as reported by Reuters on Friday, August 22.

"The victim has stated in police interviews that she would not have engaged in sexual activity had she known that Watkin was transgender, and as a result, this incident has had a significant impact on her mental health," Nelson said.

Watkin, from Stockton-on-Tees, England, admitted lying. But her lawyer said the trial would have been "very clear" to male acquaintances that Watkin was not a biological woman.

Watkin pleaded guilty to sexual assault. She will be sentenced on October 10.
