The United Nations Calls More Than 796 Thousand Palestinians Refuge In Gaza Since March Due To Israeli Attacks

JAKARTA - The United Nations (UN) announced that the number of Palestinians displaced in the Gaza Strip due to Israeli attacks since mid-March has exceeded 796.000.

UN Deputy Spokesperson for Secretary-General Daniela Gross, told reporters nearly 17,000 new evacuations were recorded between August 12 and 20, noting forced evacuations had increased sharply due to continuing Israeli attacks, quoted from WAFA Aug. 22.

With these figures, the total number of refugees registered since the collapse of the ceasefire in mid-March has surpassed 796.000.

According to the United Nations, 95 percent of forced evacuations occurred in Gaza City, where residents fled from east to west and west to seek protection from Israeli attacks.

Since August 11, Israeli forces have launched massive attacks on Zaytoon settlements, southeast of Gaza City, involving demolition of houses with trap robots, artillery firing, random fire, and mass forced transfer, as part of Israel's plan to retake the rest of the Gaza Strip.

On August 8, the Israeli government approved a plan proposed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to gradually retake the entire Gaza Strip, starting with Gaza City.

Earlier, on July 20, the United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs Coordination (OCHA) reported 88 percent of Gaza's territory - about 360 square kilometers inhabited by about 2.3 million Palestinians - was under orders of Israeli evacuation, which was a large-scale forced transfer.

Medical sources in Gaza noted on Thursday that the death toll in the Gaza Strip since the Israeli aggression in October 2023 had risen to 62,192 people, most of whom were children and women.

The same source added that the number of injured victims had risen to 157,114 since the start of the Israeli attack, while a number of victims were still buried by the rubble and could not be reached by ambulances and rescue teams.

Meanwhile, hospitals in the Gaza Strip recorded two deaths from hunger and malnutrition, bringing the total number of those killed as a result of this to 271 people, with 112 of them children.
