CIANJUR - The Cianjur Police, West Java, are investigating the cause of a pile-up involving three trucks on the Cikalongkulon-Jonggol Road in Mande District on Thursday, August 21st. The incident caused a queue of vehicles in both directions.
Iptu Ika Cakra, Head of the Law Enforcement Unit of the Cianjur Police Traffic Unit, stated that there were no fatalities in the accident. However, two drivers reportedly suffered minor injuries and received treatment at a local community health center.
"We are still investigating to determine the cause of the pile-up involving the wing box truck D 9943, the single-axle truck D 8185, and the Mitsubishi box truck BA 8902," Ika said when confirmed on Thursday, August 21st.
The Cianjur Police Traffic Unit has processed the crime scene and evacuated the three vehicles involved for further investigation.
According to Ika, the Cikalongkulon-Jonggol route is a high-risk area for accidents, especially for trucks navigating downhill and winding roads. He also urged drivers to always check their vehicles' condition before passing through the area.
"We will continue to disseminate safety information. In addition, vehicle roadworthiness checks are also being conducted at terminals and other accident-prone areas," he said.
Based on the initial investigation, the accident began when a wing box truck with registration number D 9943 was traveling from Cikalongkulon towards Mande. While traveling straight, the driver allegedly lost control and veered off the road to the right.
The truck then hit the rear of a Mitsubishi box truck in front of it and hit a single-axle truck coming from the opposite direction. The truck finally came to a stop after hitting a cliff on the side of the road.
"The truck driver suspected of causing the accident has been questioned. The driver, who suffered minor injuries, has also been questioned," Ika added.
Meanwhile, on Thursday evening, traffic flow from Jonggol and Cianjur had returned to normal after all vehicles involved were successfully evacuated.
