Brebes Resident Dies After Falling from Sound Horeg During Indonesian Independence Day Carnival

BREBES - The 80th Indonesian Independence Day Carnival, which was supposed to be a joyous celebration in Banjaratma Village, Bulakamba District, Brebes Regency, turned into a tragedy. P (37), a local resident, lost his life after falling from a sound system with a large, towering subwoofer, or sound horeg, being transported by a pickup truck, on Monday, August 18th.

The victim fell from a height of approximately five meters while attempting to fix an untied shoelace. The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. WIB, while the victim's group was still waiting in line at the honorary stage.

The Head of Banjaratma Village, Endang Rokhati, stated that the victim had been warned not to climb the sound horeg, but persisted and slipped while fixing his shoelace before his group reached the honorary stage.

"The victim didn't budge. While fixing the untied shoelace, his foot slipped and he fell," said Endang.

The medical team at Bhakti Asih Hospital in Brebes attempted to rescue the victim, but P's life could not be saved. He died from head bleeding. The victim's body was buried on Tuesday morning, August 19th, leaving deep sorrow for the family and villagers.

This incident serves as a reminder to the community that safety must be a priority in all activities, especially those involving heights. Meanwhile, village officials plan to review safety protocols for public events to prevent a similar tragedy from happening again.
