No Ceasefire, Trump Urges Zelenskyy To Make A Deal With Russia

JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump said Ukraine should agree to an agreement to end the war with Russia.

"Russia is a huge force, while they are not," Trump said after holding a summit with President Vladimir Putin that failed to produce a ceasefire.

Trump's remarks came after he met Putin for nearly three hours in Alaska on Friday at the first US-Russia summit since Moscow launched a massive invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

"All parties agree that the best way to end the terrible war between Russia and Ukraine is to reach the Peace Treaty directly, which will end the war, and not just a ceasefire agreement, which is often untenable," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The deadliest war in Europe for 80 years has killed or injured more than one million people from both sides, including thousands of civilians mostly from Ukraine, according to analysts.

Trump said he would hold talks at the White House with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday next week.

"If everything goes well, we will schedule a meeting with President Putin. Potentially, millions of people's lives will be saved," he said.

After a lengthy conversation with Alaskan post-KTT Trump, Zelenskyy said Ukraine was ready for constructive cooperation, and he supported the idea of a trilateral meeting.

"Ukraine reaffirms its readiness to work with maximum efforts to achieve peace," he wrote on social media.

However, Putin did not mention the meeting with Zelenskyy when speaking to reporters earlier.

Russian state news agency TASS quoted Putin's foreign policy adviser, Yuri Ushakov, as saying that the possible summit of the three parties involving Zelenskyy has not been discussed.
