JAKARTA - Ukraine has repatriated 84 prisoners of war in its latest exchange with Russia, which includes dozens of civilians. One of them has been detained for more than a decade.
The prisoner-of-war exchange on Thursday, August 14, covered 33 soldiers and 51 civilians, according to the Ukrainian state committee in charge of prisoners of war.
One of the prisoners has spent more than 4,000 days in detention.
The other is an elementary school teacher who was arrested by Russian-backed separatists in 2019.
"Among the civilians released today are those who have been detained by Russia since 2014, 2016 and 2017," President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on X.
"Among the militaries released today are the defenders of Mariupol," he said.
