Police Secure 4.1 Kg Of Methamphetamine Smuggled Through Pekanbaru SSK II Airport

Riau Police have secured a total of 4.1 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine which is planned to be smuggled through Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport in Pekanbaru.

Director of the Narcotics Directorate of the Riau Police, Kombes Putu Yudha Prawira, said the smuggling was thwarted by the Pekanbaru SSK II Airport Avsec officer.

The man with the initials M (26) from North Aceh Regency did not move when the black suitcase he was carrying was uncovered containing eight packs of methamphetamine on Friday (8/8).

"The solid coordination between Avsec (Aviation Security), Customs and Excise, and the Riau Police Narcotics Directorate is very crucial. We will continue to strengthen this collaboration in order to break the chain of narcotics smuggling," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 13.

At that time, airport Avsec officers were conducting routine checks on the trunk of prospective passengers using an X-ray machine. On the scanner screen, a number of suspicious objects were neatly wrapped in M's suitcase.

Suspicious of these findings, the officers immediately carried out a manual examination of the contents of the suitcase.

As a result, eight black plastic packs containing white crystals suspected of being narcotics were found neatly arranged between clothes.

This finding was immediately reported to the Riau Police's Opsnal Sub-Directorate I Directorate of Drug Investigation (Ditresnarkoba).

After the officers arrived, the suitcase was immediately opened and examined further, it was revealed that each pack had a gross weight of between 477 and 551 grams, with a total of 4,108 grams of evidence.

"The initial test using the Customs and Excise test kit ensures that the item is a type of methamphetamine narcotics," said Kombes Putu.

Furthermore, in order not to lose track, the team immediately moved quickly to secure M, who at that time was in the middle of a boarding room. To the officers, M admitted that he would fly to Palu, Central Sulawesi.

Kombes Putu emphasized that this case is proof of the importance of synergy between agencies in guarding air entrances from the threat of drug trafficking.

Suspect M was charged with Article 114 paragraph (2) junto Article 112 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, with the maximum threat of the death penalty.
