Russian Diplomat Says West Wants To Use AI To Maintain Its Hegemony

JAKARTA - Western countries want to monopolize artificial intelligence (AI) in the hope of maintaining their declining hegemony in the information room, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

"The emergence of a multipolar world and the emergence of new, completely independent and sovereign power centers has scared the West, which continues to maintain its declining hegemony. They clearly hope to take advantage of the transition to a new technology order and, by monopolizing AI technology, ushering in the era of 'AI neocolonialism'," he told Expert, quoted from TASS August 13.

Zakharova further explained, "an attempt" of the West requires additional disinformation efforts from their side, "which they are doing with enthusiasm."

"Therefore, there are ongoing efforts to discredit not only our country, but also BRICS, our partners, countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America," Zakharova explained.

According to the spokesman, the most effective weapon against disinformation is truth and fact. He noted that Russia uses all available, both traditional and new, tools for this purpose.

"For example, we take advantage of the potential for digital diplomacy. In this field, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the world's leader. With the help of digital networks, ministry accounts, foreign missions, and Russian diplomats, we convey honest and objective information about our country. We can reach audiences even in the most remote countries. The truth penetrates censorship and blocking," Zakharova explained.

"In Western countries today, there is a very large demand for reliable and diverse points of view," he concluded.
