BPBD Sarmi Reports Building Damaged Due To 6.4 Magnitude Earthquake

JAYAPURA - The Sarmi Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported that a number of buildings were damaged and collapsed due to an earthquake measuring 6.4 magnitude.

"From the temporary reports received, it was revealed that the affected areas were East Coast District and Sarmi," said Head of BPBD Sarmi Darius Nari as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 12.

The earthquake damaged several buildings on the East Coast and Sarmi, such as churches, markets and bridges.

In addition, there were community houses that collapsed and the fence of the stripyanabruk Hospital. So far there have been no reports of casualties.

To reach the East Coast, it can be reached using a vehicle about 45 minutes from Sarmi.

"We are still recording the impact of the 6.4 magnitude earthquake that occurred at around 17.24 WIT," said Darius Nari.

Meanwhile, BMKG V Jayapura reported that the earthquake that occurred at 17.24 WIT was 27 kilometers southeast of Sarmi with a depth of 13 kilometers.
