JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump on Thursday ordered the Commerce Department to start compiling new censuses based on "modern facts" and not include illegal immigrants in the calculations.
"I have ordered the Commerce Department to immediately start working on formulating a new, very accurate SENSUS based on current data and facts, and most importantly, using the results and information from the 2024 Presidential Election," Trump wrote on the Truth Social platform.
"PEOPLE IN OUR country illegally WILL NOT BE CALCULATED IN THE SENSUS," Trump continued.
The US constitution requires the census to be carried out every 10 years. The last census was carried out during Trump's first term, which recorded that the US population of 331 million people increased 7 percent compared to the previous decade.
