JAKARTA - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung announced that he will add several sports facilities to the development of the Bendera Pusaka Park in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta.
This park is a project connecting three parks around the Blok M area: Langsat Park, Ayodya Park, and Leuser Park. One of the sports facilities to be built is a padel court.
"In addition to a jogging track, we will also build sports facilities at Langsat Park, including tennis, padel, and other facilities, all completely free of charge," Pramono said in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, on Thursday, August 7.
Furthermore, the Bendera Pusaka Park will also address the flooding and odor problems that frequently occur in Langsat, Ayodya, and Leuser Parks.
"So, the construction and elimination of flooding and odors are actually quite expensive. But this must be done for the good of Jakarta. We will name the park Bendera Pusaka," he said.
On that occasion, Pramono explained the reason for choosing "Bendera Pusaka" as the park's name.
Initially, Pramono wanted to name it ASEAN Park, as it's located near the ASEAN Secretariat office. However, the bureaucratic process and permitting for the use of the name "Association of Southeast Asian Nations" took quite a long time.
Meanwhile, Pramono wanted the park to be built quickly and completed this year. Then, he came up with the idea of naming it "Taman Bendera Pusaka," a reminder that Indonesia has a long history since its founding.
"Why that name? It's to give the public a sense of understanding that this country wasn't built overnight. There was a long historical process, so the younger generation can understand," said Pramono.
At the same time, we will also prepare an ASEAN outlet or headquarters. We are currently preparing for that. Hopefully, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and I can soon finalize our shared desire," he added.
Spanning nearly six hectares, the park will feature a link bridge, a jogging track, a children's playground, a multi-purpose room, and an open-air amphitheater for arts and cultural performances.
