YOGYAKARTA - Profile of Sudewo, Regent of Pati, Central Java, has been in the spotlight of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on suspicion of involvement in the alleged corruption of the Ministry of Transportation's DJKA.

In addition, Sudewi also issued a controversial policy announcement with plans to increase the Rural and Urban Land and Building Tax (PBB-P2) by 250 percent.

As mentioned on the BPK RI website, the Pati Regency Government decided to adjust the tariff for Rural and Urban Land and Building Taxes (PBB-P2) by 250 percent in 2025. This decision was determined after the PBB-P2 intensification meeting with the sub-district heads and members of the Pasopati at the Pati Regent's Office.

Quoted from the official website of Pati Regency Public Relations, Regent Pati Sudewo revealed that this adjustment was made to increase regional income and support various infrastructure development and public services programs.

Because when compared to the Regencies of Jepara, Kudus, and Rembang, the UN acceptance in Pati Regency is only Rp. 29 billion, whereas geographically and with potential, the Pati area is greater.

"We are currently coordinating with the sub-district heads and PASOPATI to discuss the adjustment of the Land Building Tax (PBB). It has been mutually agreed that the agreement is up to 250% because the UN has not been increased for a long time, 14 years has not increased," explained Sudewo.

He also highlighted that currently, Pati Regency's UN revenue is only IDR 29 billion, much lower than Jepara Regency which reached IDR 75 billion, Rembang and Kudus Regencies IDR 50 billion each.

This drastic step immediately drew protests from residents and plans for a massive demonstration. In the midst of the polemic, the community began to highlight Sudewo's profile and how his track record was until he was selected as the number one person in Pati through the Gerindra Party route.

Sudewo was born on October 11, 1968 in Pati, Central Java. He completed basic to secondary education in his hometown, at SD Negeri 1 Slungkep, SMP Negeri 1 Kayen, and SMA Negeri 1 Pati.

Sudewo studied his master's degree at Sebelas Maret University (UNS) majoring in Civil Engineering and graduated in 1993.

He continued his education and earned a Technical Masters degree from Diponegoro University (Undip) in 2001.

Sudewo joined the Department of Public Works, and had a career for a decade from 1996 to 2006.

He also became an entrepreneur, before entering politics. At the beginning of his political career, he joined the Democratic Party, and was elected as a Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the 7th Central Java electoral district for the 2009 '2014. His political career continued with the Gerindra Party, which brought him back to the seat of the Indonesian House of Representatives in the 2019'2024 period.
