JAKARTA - The government considers that the state has full authority to prohibit the raising of the fictional flag from the One Piece anime series which is installed parallel to the Red and White Flag in commemoration of the 80th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia in 2025.

Human Rights Minister (HAM) Natalius Pigai said the action could be categorized as violating the law and even leading to treason.

"The ban on raising the flag is an important effort to maintain national symbols as a form of respect for the country," Pigai said as quoted by Antara, Sunday, July 3.

He explained that this government step is also in line with international legal principles that give the state the right to take a stand on issues concerning sovereignty and national stability.

Furthermore, Pigai believes that this policy will receive support from the global community, including the United Nations (UN).

"This prohibition is in line with the International Convention on Civil and Political Rights which has been ratified through Law Number 12 of 2005. The law allows the state to act in order to maintain national security," he explained.

Pigai emphasized that the prohibition policy was not a form of restriction on freedom of expression, but a strategic step to protect national interests in the midst of important moments such as the Indonesian Independence Day.
