The cause of the 100-hectare land fire in the Bukit Teletubies area, Nagari Lubuk Layang, Pasaman Regency on Friday, August 1, is still being investigated by the West Sumatra Province Forestry Service (Dishut).

"We are still investigating the cause of this fire," said Head of West Sumatra Dishut Ferdnal Asmin in Padang City, Saturday, quoted from ANTARA.

Ferdinal said the area of Bukit Teletubies, Nagari Lubuk Layang, South Rao District, Pasaman Regency is burned almost every year, especially during the long dry season.

In the officer's observations, there were no community activities such as land clearing for agriculture. Moreover, during the last few months there has been no rain around the area.

Ferdinal said that the 100 hectares of burned land were other areas of use, which were filled with weeds or minangs (imperrata cylindrica).

The area fire occurred on Friday (1/8) at around 12.00 WIB and was reported to local officials at 15.00 WIB. The condition of the terrain in the hills is the main obstacle for officers to extinguish the blaze.

"In addition to locations that are difficult to reach, what is burned is a weeds area, so the flames spread so quickly," he said.

Currently, West Sumatra Dishut officers and other agencies are still on standby in the Bukit Teletubies area to anticipate further fires.

Based on data from the West Sumatra Dishut, there are 1,000 hectares of land for other use areas in that location, so mitigation or prevention steps are needed.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Protection Section of the Regional Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) of the Protected Forest Management Unit (KSDAE) Pasaman Raya Yuhan said the flames were spreading rapidly, because the weeds were burned.

"The location of the fire is in another area of use or outside a forest area filled with dried weeds," he concluded.
